Founded in 1985, the AOP Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence is the second regional appellation in Provence. Its geographical area includes 27 municipalities in the department of Bouches-du-Rhone and two municipalities in the department of Var.

The AOP Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence covers the western part of Lower Provence, from the Sainte-Victoire Mountain range to the Alpilles, thence on to the Blue Coast in the Durance Valley. Spread over 3,500 hectares, the vineyards of the AOP Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence produces about 150,000 hectoliters per year.
Quality wines of Aix-en-Provence region
Typical of the Mediterranean climate of Provence, the region is bathed in sunshine and often swept by a strong mistral breezes. Due to clay-limestone soils, these rose wines are supple and fruity. Rose wines represent 55% of wine production in the region. Grenache dominates, before Cinsault and Carignan.
